Monday 2 May Free Life music event with Choirs. Bands. solo performers as we remember "The Battle of Deptford Broadway " and the work of Kath Duncan in the 1930s.

ALL events have FULL disability access.

The Kath Duncan Tribute event and Concert with  choirs followed by the concerts at Zion chapel New Cross Road ,Monday 2 May 12.30-4pm  proved a huge hit in 2015 so back for 2016 as a free day of music and performance . We are still welcoming performers.

At 4pm after the music free screening of the Hollywood blockbuster " Suffragettes" This Venue.

There will also be screenings of local news reels and local films made about Deptford from start of film to present day, the film festival aspect should delight, inform and engage everyone with a love for film and all things Deptford.Screen all day Saturday in The St Nicholas Church Tea Room .

Free Deptford Film Festival NOT 2b Missed

Music

The 2016 festival will have three main stage areas on which musicians will be able perform. Get in touch if you would like to express your musical talent.  We are looking for choirs, brass bands, classical performers and rock, pop, jazz and blues acts. The focus of the 2016 festival will be on the heritage of Deptford with walks. talks. tours. films and dance and drama performances as well as a variety of music events. Heritage

During the festival there will be walks, talks, dance and drama performances, music events  and guided tours.  In addition to this there will be exhibitions and arts projects that will trace Deptford's history from the earliest times to the present day. Deptford's vibrant creative communities have come up with some amazing projects. Whilst 95%, of events are free, we do have some wonderful ticket only events that generate the funds to run the festival and raise money for local charities. In 2016 each event will have its own ticket allocation - even for free events - ticket prices from £5 all kids go free.

Latest Deptford History Book

This fact filled history book is a must for those who want to know about the history of Deptford.  The book covers the period from the 1400s to the present day. You can buy this book for £9.99 on Ebay in their History Section. This is a great gift for all history buffs and makes a good coffee table book and is also a great guide to the festival.

Handel's Messiah by the Merry Opera Company

 Saturday 30th April at 6pm will see one of the hightlights of the Deptford Heritage Festival. Handel's Messiah will be performed at St Nicholas Church, Deptford Green. This is one of the oldest churches in the area and dates back to Saxon times. The production has been described by Opera Now magazine as "wonderfully original."  This fantastic opera company have changed the way people listen to opera and have removed the art form from its elitist image and transformed it into music for the masses.  The doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start and the event ends at 9pm. This event was a sell out success at last year's festival and tickets are already selling fast. Pirate Themed Family Fun Day

 

On Monday 2nd May we are bringing back the hugely popular free family pirate day. Children will have the opportunity to dress as pirates and build miniature ships. This will reflect the Royal Dockyard’s half a millennium of global ship building history. Dress your children and even your dogs as pirates for a chance to win our fancy dress prize. The dog show will commence at 3pm and the childrens fancy dress show begins at 4pm. You have to compete for a chance to win. Come on down land-lubbers! Ahah me hearties!  This is a free event, however, to regulate numbers tickets will be required.
